My commitment is to empower you to enhance; develop and sustain your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

I welcome you to SanBaoWayan accessible and flexible training programme that reflects over 35 years of my training and study of QiGong practice, mindful meditation and movement and martial arts. I continue to journey within this ever-unfolding and inspirational landscape – and I invite you to join me on that journey.

Qigong, also spelled as “chi kung” or “chi gong,” is an ancient Chinese practice that combines movement, meditation, and breath control to cultivate and balance the body’s vital energy, known as “qi” or “chi.” The term “qi” (pronounced “chee”) refers to the life force or energy that flows through all living things according to traditional Chinese medicine and philosophy.

Qigong encompasses a wide range of exercises and techniques, including gentle movements, flowing sequences, standing postures, breathing exercises, and mental focus (mindfulness). These practices are designed to promote the smooth flow of qi throughout the body, remove blockages or imbalances, and enhance overall health and well-being.

The primary goals of qigong practice include:

  1. Harmonizing Body and Mind: Qigong helps to synchronize and integrate the movements of the body with the breath and mental focus, fostering a sense of unity and harmony between body, mind, and spirit.
  2. Cultivating Vital Energy: Through specific movements, breathing techniques, and mindful intention, qigong cultivates and enhances the flow of qi within the body, promoting vitality, resilience, and longevity.
  3. Balancing Yin and Yang: Qigong seeks to balance the opposing forces of yin and yang within the body, as understood in traditional Chinese medicine. This balance is believed to support optimal health and prevent illness.
  4. Strengthening the Immune System: Regular qigong practice is thought to strengthen the body’s immune system, improve circulation, enhance flexibility and balance, and reduce stress and tension, thereby supporting overall health and resilience.
  5. Promoting Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Qigong techniques, including deep breathing, mindful movement, and meditation, can induce a state of deep relaxation, reduce stress levels, and promote a sense of calm and inner peace.

Qigong is practiced for various purposes, including health and well-being, preventing illness, rehabilitation, spiritual development, and martial arts training. It is often described as a form of “moving meditation” because of its emphasis on mindfulness, presence, and awareness during practice.

At SanBaoWay, we focus primarily on the Baduanjin (Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade form). An accessible sequence of moves that have a profound and positive impact on our external and internal health.

Mindfulness is a gentle, yet profoundly powerful practice that can empower us to be present and in the here and now – fully alive in the moment. It can be accessed and experienced by us all – here and now – wherever we are – whatever we are DOING – in both formal and informal ways.

Mindfulness is about slowly, gently and consistently ‘re-calibrating’ our attention to stay in the present – rather than retreating too frequently back into our past or casting our thoughts into the future. It is a ‘felt’ awareness at the point when we are truly attentive to the current task in hand – when we are able to direct our attention with purpose to our inner experience – our presence with others and in our communion with the natural world and environment around us.

On a practical level – we can engage and experience mindfulness through formal practices such as meditation; mindful and attentive movement and exercises and more informally, through being present as we engage in daily activities.

By introducing short, easy to follow breath-aware, meditations and simple daily task exercises such as mindful meal preparation, mindful walking and mindful movement/exercise – we can start to gain that sense of presence; heightened concentration and awareness; emotional balance and resilience to life’s challenges.

We provide a unique approach to health and well-being through our focus on QiGong and Mindfulness.
